Women rights around the world

This week, we learned about women's right. There are lots of country in the world that doesn't have equal right between women and men. We learn about them in Asia, North America, Europe, and Africa. I and my group got assigned to Europe. We study and found out that Europe doesn't have a lot of problems with women rights. But have some in less developed country. One country that really pops out is Andora, Andora doesn't have equal rights in government or jobs. Some sexual violence but not as harsh as in Africa. In Africa, women can't go to school, they don't have their rights, the cant stand up for themselves so over thousands and thousands of women get child marriage and rape, worse of all, they have traditions of genital mutilation which is used to control women from having something with men because men can't control themselves. Or in Asia, men think that women are nothing but a housewife and take care of children. And lastly, in North America, that women are being domestically abused. All these problems happen because of men. They feel like they are in power and women are under them. Or like the genital mutilation, if men learn to control themselves, so to improve this, we should have laws and educated men and women.

My way of annotating

When annotating, I use highlighter, sticky notes, small bookmarkers and pen or pencil. When I annotate, I divide my highlighter into different colors that mean different things. Some to highlight the main idea, the conflict, the character name, the shocking things or the development in the story. Then I/ use my sticky note to write my opinion about the text or use to a summary a little bit if it gets complicated. Then I use the small bookmarkers to mark the important pages such as the conflict page or other interesting pages so I can see easily. Also, I use the same color of highlighter and bookmarkers for the same topic of use so it is even more clear and easy to see and find.

Also, our chips were not thin enough which makes it very hard to eat.

French toast

SugarX Franch Toast.

Enjoy the crunchy caramelized sugar on soft golden french toast.

Let see what we need to create this yummy breakfast!
- 3 Bread - preferred to be thick and soft.
- 2 tablespoon of milk
- 1 egg
- A lot of sugar - brown sugar will caramelize and taste the best
- Some Cinnamon
- Some Butter

Steps:

  1.  Mix 2 tablespoon of milk and 1 egg together
  2.  Add sugar and cinnamon to the mix and mix truly
  3.  Put sugar on a plate to dip the bread in
  4.  Soak the bread into the mix
  5.  Heat up the pan and put a little amount of butter in it
  6.  Get the bread out of the mix and dip it in the sugar
  7.  After the butter sizzle, put the bread in the pan
  8.  Wait until the bread turn brown and flip the side
  9.  When both sides are brown, flip it again so the sugar will caramelize - do it to both sides
  10.  Take the bread out when both sides are dark brown
  11.  Done! Your french toast is ready to be eaten and poured with maple syrup!

Safety:
  •  Make sure your sugar doesn't burn but turn to solid
  •  Make sure the egg is cooked not raw inside the bread
  •  Don't leave the wooden turner in the pan
  •  JUST BE CAREFUL IT'S HOT

To be improved: We should add fruits into the french toast and put in some butter sauce. We shouldn't have put too much sugar into the mix because we are putting so much on the bread itself to caramelized.

Tone, Mood, and Flashback.

Tone.Mood.Flashback.

The tone is what the author tries to express to us in a book, movie, music or art. They use color, description, and pitch to make us understand it. But what we feel from their tone is the mood. The mood is what the reader or the viewer receive through the tone that the author gives.
EXP:Image result for scary alligator
Because of the dark and black color that the picture has and the red fire eye, the mood that the viewer receive is scary and frightening.

Flashback is part of the story that goes back to the past event that already happened that help the reader to understand what is happening.

The protestant reformation

The Protestant Reformation happened after the medieval time. It's the time of Christianity reformation. The reformation of Christian to Protestant, Calvinism, Lutheran and other types of Christianity happened during the period. The reformation happened when people know more about the wrong things that the church was doing, the lies and everything. Like selling indulgence and getting a lot of money. Because of the Gutenberg press, people get to read the bible and realized that the things the priest were telling them and doing to them were all lies. Marthin Luther, a main figure in the period who know about the wrong doing of the church and tried to stop it. With the help of the bible, people know that the church was lying and believe more in him. He also sticks the 95 theses to the door of the church and when people read it, they know more about the church and they start following him, and Lutheran was created. Other people also thought that the church was bad, some have good reasons like John Calvin, some have weird reasons like King Henry. the impact of all these new religions also led to war and split of Christianity and country, but bring back the real Christianity and stop the church corruption. All of this led to the Protestant Christianity which is why the name of the period is the Protestant Reformation.

What I learned this week in LA 1-9-17

This week, we learn about the different point of views, the first person, 3rd person omniscient, and 3rd person limited. First person point of view stories is those with the narrator as the character, using pronouns such as I, me and we.  Third person omniscient is written by a narrator who is not the character itself. Third person omniscient is like the view by god, the narrator knows every thinking and feeling of almost every person in the story. On the other hand, the third person limited is written also by a narrator who is not the character, but the thinking and feeling are limited. The narrator doesn't know everything unlike third person omniscient.

We also learn and use outlines in making an essay. The outline includes the thesis statement, which is what the author claim about a topic. The 3 reasons to support the thesis and the examples given to support the reason.

What i learned in social study 24-25/8/17

The Dome of Florence and The Roman Pantheon. The two architecture was evolutionary at the time, they are very beautiful and they don't have any pillar supporting them! The Roman Pantheon was built so long ago in year 26. the building has a hole the let sunlight come in. And the sun would shine at the different statues inside the building.

The Dome of Florence was built later in the year 1296 and finished in the 15th century. By the time that it was finished, the architect was already dead. The dome was built with no

The arts that were very beautiful was by Michelangelo that was painted in the Sistine Chapel. The paintings are all very religious, like the creation of Adam, the last judgment, or the prophet. Not only religious, Michelangelo painted them very realistically. The body and the background were really realistic.

the painting during the renaissance was really realistic. The mona Lisa and the last supper. They were very realistic. And they have perspective in the painting. With the background in the back, it looks even more realisitc .

What I learned in SS this week

18/8/17

Social Study
This week, we learned about the Renaissance and the period of reformation. What I learn is basically everything because I never know anything about the two periods of history. We learn about how the periods affect us, the key people, and some important events that happen.

In the Renaissance, it's the period of rebirth, arts, music, and science was reborn during this period. Main figures during the time are Leonardo da Vinci or Michelangelo.

During the period of reformation, the church and the clergy were taking too much money from people by selling indulgence. So Martin Luther, a priest and John Calvin, a theologist wanted to change it.  During the period, there was also King Henry the VIII who turn into a Heretic because the pope wouldn't let him a divorce and marry any more women.  It's the period of changing from catholic to protestant.

I want to learn more about the music during the Renaissance.

What I learned this week in L.A.

This week, I learned about Direct and Indirect Characterization

Direct: He is tall
Indirect: he bangs his head on every door in the world if he doesn't bend his leg.

Image result for direct indirect characterization

I also learned about assertions and showing evidence

What type of character is Patrick Maloney?

Trait
Evidence from Text
Assertion
1. mean
He shouted at her, he is leaving her, she don't care about what he did for her, and he only care about himself

Quotes:
"Sit down," he said. "Just for a minute, sit down."
--
“Of course, I'll give you money and see that you're taken care of.”
--
"Don't make supper for me. I'm going out."
--
“But there really shouldn't be any problem. I hope not, in any case. It wouldn't be very good for my job."

Patrick shouted at his pregnant wife, he leaves her and his baby, he don't care about her or anything she did for him, and the only thing he did is think only about himself. This shows that he is mean

language art end of the year reflection

Language Arts Reflection

  1. Sort out your social studies and language arts assignments from your hanging folder.
  2. Check your final grades on powerschool. Read your comments for language arts.
  3. Find a writing assignment from the beginning, middle, and end of the year (electronic or in your folder). Post pictures of those assignments.
  1. Compare and contrast the quality of writing in the two pieces and evaluate the quality of your writing in a few sentences.    start: P, middle: PMM, end: MME. I started with P, then my grade, during the year have gone better and better.
  2. Writing: Describe areas you have grown in and what you need to continue to target to be a stronger writer? Use the rubrics to help you form your responses. I usually get the grammar wrong.
  3. Reading: What was your favorite independent reading book? Summarize what it’s about in 2-3 sentences. Why did you read that book? What type of reader would enjoy that book? I like the harry potter the most, I discover that I like series from reading Harry Potter. Harry Potter is about harry potter and his life. I like the mysterious and magical part of harry potter.

  1. Language Foundations: Take a look at your NoRedInk profile. What grammar skills that you practiced were challenging? What skill do you feel more confident in applying to your writing now? I get bad at punctuation.
  2. Listening and Speaking: What oral presentation or speech do you feel most proud of this year? (Crusade leader debate, competitive sports debate, young entrepreneur of the year debates, Shark Tank, Speak Out, Columbus Mock Trial, book talk) What helped you feel confident in that situation? The debate, every one of them.
  3. Research: What topic did you enjoy researching? What interested you about this topic? What did you learn about evaluating resources? (Shark Tank, young entrepreneur, post-classical state, trade routes, crusades historical fiction background, crusade battle, competitive sports debate, etc). I like the crusades battle.
  4. What should stay the same and what should change about language arts class?  I don't know, maybe we didn’t do enough reading lately.
  5. Share a positive memory from class.  I like everything.

Shark Tank Reflection

PART A: Find pictures and videos to add to your blog. This should take no more than 10 minutes.

  1.

PART B: Answer the following questions on your blog. When you are done answering the questions, publish your blog post.

  1. Think about the work and effort your team members have put into this project:
    1. What are some examples of what your classmates did that helped you learn? Please include at least three and elaborate (explain more) about how they helped.
My classmates help me to learn about how to make candles. And how hard it is to do something for all of us to all collaborate. Also, how hard it is to separate money and set the right price.

  1. How would you describe your work and cooperation? Did you contribute regularly as your group worked together?
    1. What are some examples you did in the classroom that you believe has helped other people learn? Patents, copyrights, and trademark.
    2. What were you particularly good at during group work? I work well with other and don’t complain if other don’t do their work but try to do my best.
    3. How did your contribution change over the time your group worked together? Please tell us a full story about how your roles changed or developed and your work ethic either grew stronger or weaker. First, we all work, but over time, other people start to play games and stuff and left us to work alone.
    4. How can you take what you have learned about the process of working together on a creative project and apply it in the future? If I open a business, I will choose smart people who will work well. And will set good prices and work well with other.

  1. What were your favorite parts of the Shark Tank project for:
    1. Phase 1: in phase one, I like that I was able to make my own product
    2. Phase 2: in phase two, I like that we work together and sold out our candle in just a little time.

shark tank reflection

  1. Summarize the process of selecting a topic for your Shark Tank 7 project.
I make a stress ball. First, I and Sunny have a very different idea, a tracking device, and a ball. But I know that a tracking device is too hard to make, so I decided that we would stick with sunny's idea. We have tried to change it to a spinner, but a lot of people is making a spinner so we stick with the idea of a stress ball. But our stress ball is not normal, it is magnetic. We first didn't think that it would be magnetic until Sunny brought his magnet to class and we thought that we should make it magnetic but we don't even know my we thought that.

2. Describe the process of researching and your overall success or struggle with researching your topic for Shark Tank 7.
From our research, the product should be somehow eco-friendly or reusable, biodegradable and other things that are good for or help the earth. But stress ball is usually not really helps the earth or good for the earth. So we need to find something about the stress ball that is good or that is better than another stress ball. So we spend time researching until when we found out that we can say that normal stress ball is made of polyurethane foam rubber which is bad for the environment which our is not. But still, the balloon, the magnet, the glue are all not good for the earth. So our problem is to find ways to make our product "look" good for the environment. And lastly, we overcome it by not talking about it in our presentation but stick to the good things which are that it is not made from polyurethane foam rubber.

3. Describe the steps taken and overall challenges in completing or creating your Shark Tank prototype.
The challenge about our prototype is the quality of balloon and our knowledge about to do you put liquid inside balloon but still doesn't pop. We spend a week making 1 prototype. Because out stress ball keeps popping on and on. Until we realized that we shouldn't put the liquid in too full in the balloon, but we need to leave some air inside. And also, we need to use balloons that are quite thick to helps it also so prevent popping.

4. Reflect on your overall presentation experience or struggles with completing the pitch for your shark Tank 7.
Our struggle would be the time. Because we are supposed to each have 1 minute but I spoke for around 1 and a half minute that Sunny doesn't have time to speak. But luckily, he forgot his script and so he used only 30 seconds.
But forgetting his script is also bad because he didn't really talk about the environmentally friendly part and so our score dropped.

5. How would you present differently for Speak Out/the formal Shark Tank presentation?
I would remember my script better and talk faster and have more control and don't struggle.
